ValuNet Fiber to Open Spring 2023 Applications for Charitable Giving Fund to Support Local Nonprofit Organizations
March 30, 2023 – ValuNet Fiber, along with the other Cable One® family of brands, will open fall 2023 applications for the company’s Charitable Giving Fund, which annually awards $250,000 in grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, from April 1-30, 2023.
Grants will be made available across communities served by ValuNet and the other Cable One family of brands (Sparklight, Fidelity Communications and Hargray) and will concentrate support in the following priority areas:
- Education and Digital Literacy
- Hunger Relief and Food Insecurity
- Community Development
Last year the company awarded grants to nearly 60 nonprofits, including organizations serving the homeless, providing child advocacy, offering senior assistance, and supplying food to those in need, to name a few.
The Charitable Giving Fund is an extension of the company’s existing corporate social responsibility efforts, which include:
- Supporting national organizations dedicated to advancing education and diversity, including the Emma Bowen Foundation and the National Diversity Council.
- Supporting the mission of Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports, as well as health, arts, and leadership and advocacy programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Planting trees through the Arbor Day Foundation on behalf of customers who switch to paperless billing. By the end of 2023, the company will have planted 130,000 trees in its markets and national forests.
- Supporting the mission of Keep America Beautiful in cleaning up and beautifying communities across the U.S.

One winner will receive $2,500 to support K-12 science, technology, engineering and math projects
March 1, 2023 – Phoenix – ValuNet Fiber invites schools and organizations serving K-12 students to enter its 5th annual “Dream Bigger” social media campaign for the opportunity to win $2,500 to fund their science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) project or club.
K-12 schools and organizations throughout the Emporia community may enter to win simply by sharing a photo and written entry outlining how the money will be used to fund their technology project – whether for equipment, competition fees, curriculum development, field trips or other materials – and how it benefits students. One winner will receive a $2,500 donation.
“ValuNet has long recognized the importance of STEM education in equipping students with the skills to overcome the digital divide,” said Trish Niemann, Vice President of Communications Strategy. “Our annual Dream Bigger contest helps support STEM-based curricular and extracurricular initiatives that get children interested in STEM concepts early on, sparking an interest that could last a lifetime.”
Entries will be accepted March 1 through March 22 at myvalunet.com/contest. Five finalists will be selected by ValuNet and the winner will be determined by public voting from March 24 through March 31. ValuNet Fiber to Award $1,500 to a K-12 Teacher Building A Stronger Connection in their Community
Aug. 1, 2022 – Phoenix, Arizona – ValuNet Fiber today announced it will award $1,500 to a K-12 teacher making a difference in their school and community as part of the internet service provider’s “A Stronger Connection” social media campaign.
Individuals throughout the Emporia community may nominate a teacher simply by sharing a photo and written entry outlining how the educator works to build connections and go above and beyond for their students.
“Teachers perform a vital role in educating the future leaders of our communities, and often spend their personal time and resources to ensure their students have the tools they need to be successful,” said Trish Niemann, Vice President of Communications Strategy. “ValuNet wants to recognize an outstanding educator and help them get their school year off to a great start.”

ValuNet Fiber Awards $2,000 Grant to Emporia Nonprofit, Hetlinger Developmental Services, Inc.
February 11, 2022 – Emporia, Kan. – ValuNet Fiber, a member of the Cable One family of brands, recently awarded a $2,000 grant to Hetlinger Developmental Services, Inc. through the company’s Charitable Giving Fund. Through this program, the company awarded more than $100,000 in grants during the winter of 2021 to 32 nonprofit organizations across its 24-state footprint.
Hetlinger Developmental Services, which provides services and support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that allow them opportunities to increase their independence, productivity, integration and inclusion into their communities, received a grant from ValuNet Fiber to help build a greenhouse on its property as a part of its Planting Hope Initiative.
“The Planting Hope Initiative will allow Hetlinger to expand enrichment and educational opportunities for our program participants,” said Trudy Hutchinson, Hetlinger Developmental Services Executive Director. “Having an environmentally-controlled and ADA-friendly greenhouse on-site will enable us to offer a year-round horticulture therapy program to those we serve. Thanks to funding from this grant, once the greenhouse is complete, our new program will allow participants to learn new skills, build self-confidence, achieve a sense of responsibility, improve motor skills, increase physical activity, and reduce stress.”
The Charitable Giving Fund annually awards more than $200,000 in grants to local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations served by ValuNet Fiber and the other Cable One family of brands (Sparklight®, Fidelity Communications, and Hargray), and concentrates support in the following priority areas:

Nonprofit organizations will have the opportunity to apply for a grant during open application periods each spring and fall. Applications for spring 2022 grants will open between April 1 -30, 2022.

ValuNet Fiber to Award $4,000 to individuals building A Stronger Connection in their community
Aug. 10, 2021 – Phoenix, Arizona – ValuNet Fiber today announced it will award $1,000 each to four individuals making a difference in the Emporia community as part of the internet service provider’s “A Stronger Connection” social media campaign.
Individuals throughout the ValuNet’s service area can nominate a fellow community member simply by sharing a photo and written entry outlining how the nominee works to build connections in their community – whether through volunteering, caregiving, teaching, as a first responder or myriad other ways. One individual will be selected to win each week for four weeks.

ValuNet Awards Village Elementary School $3,000
School selected as ‘Dream Bigger’ contest winner for upcoming podcast
May 11, 2021 – Emporia, Kansas – Schools and organizations serving K-12 students in Emporia recently had the opportunity to win a $3,000 donation from ValuNet Fiber to fund their STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) project or club as part of the internet service provider’s annual “Dream Bigger” social media campaign.
The winner, Village Elementary School, plans to use the winning funds to develop a podcast project under the umbrella of the school’s STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art and math) program.
According to the project entry, submitted by Village Elementary Technology Coach Chelsea Evans, the podcast will serve as a platform for Village students to have a voice and simultaneously connect them with the local and global community. The project is intended to teach K-5 students skills in communications, technology, content development, project management, marketing and more while also introducing them to telecommunications as a potential career pathway.
“The students and staff at Village Elementary could not be more thrilled to be receiving the ValuNet Dream Bigger award,” Evans said. “The funding will provide students with the materials needed to bring our podcasting project to life. Thank you ValuNet for supporting the community, making education and youth development a priority, and helping our students Dream Bigger.”
Village Elementary was one of 5 finalists selected by ValuNet; public voting determined the winner.
